Adopt a dog!

From time to time we have dogs that we are looking to place in a caring home. These dogs may be retiring from their job, or simply have pet qualities and are looking to "own their own human". At the end of each season, we look for active homes for these dogs who would not miss their life as a working dog.
While we have assessed these dogs as "pet quality" please remember that they have some special needs due to their years in a kennel. They will all require patience and time to adjust to their new home. They are not cut from the same cloth as a golden retriever or labrador. However, if one is willing to make the effort, they will become loving and extra dedicated companions. Perhaps more dedicated than other dogs, as they now have a human to call their very own. One of the issues you may be confronted with is seperation anxiety, as they have never spent time alone. They have always been with other dogs. Some will need help in figuring out simple things such as stairs, waiting politely for their meal, and other rules of the house. Alaskan Huskies typically have a strong hunt drive, which does not make them suitable farm dogs. They all will require daily exercise. They are bred to run and run they do. Folks looking for a pet skijoring dog could not find a better match.

Many of the dogs we are looking to place have been raised by us, which means they have been socialized thoroughly as pups, are excellent off leash, and love a spot on the couch. In additon, any dogs we deem to be pet quality get tested by our staff, who take them home at night for sleep overs, walks, and general exposure to household goings on. This has initialized them into a different life, however they will still need extra work, time and attention to help them make the full transition.

Successfuly adopted to date: Mugs is living with a tour guide and travelling through the Yukon for the summer. Kazan is living with a police officer in Edmonton. Mouse is living with a carpenter in Saskatchewan. Buff is living with a bear biologist in northern British Columbia. ( he gets to fly in a helicopter!) Satchmo is living with a massage thereapist in British Columbia. Barbie is on her way to Washingtion DC to live with a family of 3 other dogs. Katie retired to California, where she lives on the beach with an artist.

Jack

Jack is a 7 year old male Siberean cross who weighs in at 60 pounds. He is great with people, big and small, but not good with other dogs. He is best as an outside dog. Fine off leash as long as there are not other dogs around. A big blue eyed teddy bear.

Shivers

Shivers is a 7 year old 45 pound female who is affectionate, quiet and reserved. She is moderately active and best in a family without children or other dogs. She loves to be inside on the couch and would make a loving and loyal companion.

Barbie (adopted)

Barbie is a Barbie doll. She is a 45 pound pointer/husky cross female who will turn 5 this year. She is a great sleddog but we don't believe she would miss her job if she joined an active home. She is subdued and quiet, until it is time to go out and run! She loves to hug.

Dylan

Dylan is a 6 year old, 50 pound sweetheart of a boy. He loves people and is very responsive off leash. We raised him from a pup and he is very special to us so he won't be easy to part with. However an active home with undivided attention would make Dylan a happy boy so if we can find that for him we will sadly part with him under the condition that we get updates and photos from time to time.

Snack

Snack was from our first litter of pups. She is a very sweet and affectionate girl who pretends to be tough. She will be 7 this spring and weighs in at 42 pounds. Even though she is a super athlete, Snack runs and hides at the sight of a harness now , so she idles her days away on the couch. She also gets out for "walks"...which are really flat out sprints back and forth. Lovely to watch her run, if it's not after a cow which she loves to chase. She's rotten but we love her.

Emma

Sister to Snack, Emma is the "big-boned" sister, who weighs in at 48 pounds. She is painfully shy and will take time to warm up, but once she has she is as sweet as they come. She is quiet and goofy at the same time. She is languid and mellow inside, and is a real cuddler. Outside she is a speedy athlete. She will be a incredibly loyal companion to the right person. Unlike her sister, she comes when called.

Mallory

Sister to Emma and Snack, Mallory is bit of a wild child. Now 7 years old, she runs like she is still a 2 year old. She is loving and affectionate with a good sense of humour. She is good off leash and likes to wrestle and retrieve Kongs. Together with Snack, they acquired the nickname of "The Evil Twins" as they get into no end of mischief when set loose on the world. Loves to run, chase a bike, charge into swimming holes and tear up a powder slope.

Judy

Judy is 10 year old retired race dog who weighs 48 pounds. She is somewhat neurotic but sweet and beautiful. She is ready to retire to a quiet home where she can relax and go for walks with a human pal.

Leo

Leo is a 5 year old male who is looking for a loving home. As a pup, he was the main couch potatoe, spending time napping with handlers. He has been a hardworking tour dog, but would like to retire with his own human.

Lizzie

Lizzie is Dylan's sister. A beautiful athletic girl who is loving and quiet until it's time to run. Liz is already a seasoned house dog as she has developed an allergy to straw, and thus cannot stay in the yard. She is flawless off leash and comes on a dime when called. She was one of our main race dogs, covering 75 miles in a go without a look over her shoulder, but due to her allergies she is occasionally treated with prednisone now, which exempts her from racing. She is fine with other dogs but gets quite jealous, attempting to monopolize the attention.

Maggie and Nymph

Maggie and Nymph

These sisters love each other and we would love to place them together. Maggie is our one-eyed sprite, very gregarious and jubilant. She lost an eye to glaucoma this past winter, but this hasn't slowed her down a bit. Life is a party for Maggie and we have never seen her unhappy. Nymph is the quiet sister, very shy but affectionate once she gets to know you. As sweet as they come. Both about 40 pounds.
